The Audacity of an
African Girl

Khuraira Musa, the founder of Khuraira Cosmetics and a renown, celebrated Makeup Artist with more than 25 years of experience, shares her powerful story of overcoming adversity and succeeding despite all odds.

Who Is Khuraira Musa?

An international makeup artist and philanthropist, Khuraira Musa is an inspiration for countless women. She is a resident of New Jersey and a mother to five brilliant children.
Born in 1967 in the remote village of Mariri in Nigeria, she spent a better part of her infancy in an orphanage. However, her beloved Aunt Zainab fought tooth and nail to bring her back home to a rugga settlement, where she and her husband raised Khuraira as their own child and even helped her attend primary school – thus changing the trajectory of her life. Even from a very young age, Khuraira had a thirst for knowledge and an unbridled passion for helping others. Her desire to give back to society encouraged her to become a community health worker.

She also studied accountancy at Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaira.

During those days, her entrepreneurial spirit helped her establish a small home business to support her little family.
After immigrating to the United States, Khuraira began her professional career as a salesperson in a departmental store. Nevertheless, her love for makeup led her on a journey to become a beauty adviser and eventually work with leading cosmetics brands. Instead of allowing the trial and tribulations to dampen her spirit, Khuraira continued to pursue her goals with renewed vitality. Her book, “The Audacity of an African Girl,” is a testament to how far she has come from where she started.

Khuraira Cosmetics and
Professional Success

In 2008, Khuraira Musa founded Khuraira Cosmetics – a highly sought-after luxury cosmetics line that caters to women of all ages, colors, and skin types.
The brand operates as a boutique flagship store in Tenafly, New Jersey, where socialites and celebrities can shop the signature makeup products from the full-color cosmetics line and get treated to airbrush makeup, lash extensions, brow contouring, and other luxurious services.
An epitome of creativity and ingenuity, Khuraira has an uncanny ability to merge skincare treatment into her makeup products. Combined with her high-quality makeup tools, her cosmetics line promises an alluring and finished look with long-lasting effects. One of her most popular creations is Khuraira Dark Circle Primer – a tined primer boasting advanced orange correcting technology that can instantly neutralize blue undertones and diminish dark circles.

Furthermore, as a leading pioneer of airbrush makeup techniques, Khuraira is credited with developing K-PRO Airbrush Makeup. This enhanced and flawless makeup application system enjoys immense popularity among industry insiders who have deemed it one of the best on the market.
There is no denying that Khuraira Musa is a glorious example of how hope and courage can open the door to a world of overwhelming possibilities, her antecedents earning her a place of pride in the annals of history.
After all, who would have thought that a helpless orphan born more than five decades ago could make her mark as a top renown, celebrated Makeup Artist and edge upon the sands of time to touch the lives of others through her work and generosity?
Yet, Khuraira Musa proved them all wrong with her hard work, compassion, and drive to achieve success.

Giving Back to Society

A true humanitarian, Khuraira Musa has founded a co-educational primary school in her hometown. This institution offers free primary education to the children living in her native rugga settlement and the larger Jebbu-Bassa neighborhood. Since its establishment in 2013, this school has allowed hundreds of Fulani and Rukuba boys and girls to acquire early education without worrying about the fee.
In addition, Khuraira is the founder of the Arewa Development Support Initiative (ADSI). The not-for-profit organization aspires to help the youths and women in northern Nigeria overcome their adversities and become contributing members of society. With a monthly contribution of N2000 from the like-minded members of the NGO, ADSI organizes skill acquisition programs, seminars, and workshops to empower hundreds of beneficiaries. The interventions led by the organization have helped put a smile on so many faces by providing them with a source of livelihood.
That’s not all.

Her youngest son’s battle with Sickle Cell Anemia has turned Khuraira into a passionate advocate for people suffering from the disease. She is an active part of the movement that raises funds for those suffering from this disorder and supports their transplants. Furthermore, she provides charitable support for breast cancer patients in New Jersey – a remarkable initiative that has facilitated successful treatments of several patients, helping give them another chance at life.
You can learn more about the professional life and philanthropic work of Khuraira Musa in her book, “The Audacity of an African Girl.”
